Manon Labreche (Formerly Short), PT, CEAS II

Manon Labreche is a Physical Therapist and a level 2 Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS II). For the last 14 years she has been the Injury Prevention Coordinator at a large level I trauma center in Tampa, Florida and is responsible for the development and management of the safe patient handling lift team and ergonomic program. Manon maintains her clinical expertise by working in a Rehabilitation center. Manon has been a SPHM consultant with Visioning HealthCare for the past three years, working with therapists as part of our SPHM program implementation, as well as being integral to the development of several of VHC’s educational programs.

Manon has been responsible for implementing an innovative and creative injury prevention program at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in Florida, which has been very successful in reducing patient handling injuries and has received national recognition. In April 2009, TGH received the national Best Practice Award for their injury prevention and lift team program. Since it’s inception, TGH has seen a 61% reduction in patient handling injuries and a reduction in cost of over 80% for patient handling injuries.

Manon has served on many National Task forces with the VISN 8 Patient Safety Center in Tampa, FL, the AORN, and the ANA to assist with the development of safe patient handling guidelines and/or programs. She often speaks at national conferences such as those sponsored by the ANA, AOHP, AAOHN, OSHA, NIOSH, and Tampa safety center, and has authored several peer reviewed publications on the success of the implementation and successful outcomes of Lift Teams. She is also a former member of the Board of Directors for the American Association of Safe Patient Handling and Movement.
